We contribute to a dynamic portfolio of projects across the globe

Collaboration and delivery

Save the Children operates in a dynamic context of serious and complex threats to children, specifically climate change, conflict and COVID-19. More than ever, we need to be able to draw on cost effective approaches that can be applied to a range of situations, create real change for children and offer opportunity for scale.

CUBIC’s agile approach produces results that target context specific behaviors while generating evidence that can inform programming elsewhere. Through this ‘content agnostic’ application of scientific methods, CUBIC can add value to work tackling the most complex threats and amplify impact.

Since 2020 we have contributed to programs across all four of SCI’s strategic goals: Healthy Start in Life, Live Free from Violence, Safe Back to School and Learning, and Safety Nets and Resilient Families. Through collaboration on 25 projects we have worked closely with more than 20 country teams across four continents.

CURRENT PROJECTS

“CUBIC can get alongside our existing programming and make it more efficient.”

PROJECTS

CUBIC projects often involve developing and testing prototypes that support behavior change. These products might focus on simplifying systems,  promoting social norms, or increasing commitment to a specific behavior. Below we share visual examples of a range of these prototypes from a selection of previous projects.

CHINA | Encouraging Positive Parenting

In 2022 we worked with Save the Children China to research ways to decrease violent discipline by parents and to increase father’s engagement with their children. We explored creation of communication and commitment prototypes to support the adoption of positive parenting practices in Guangzhou and Shangai.

BANGLADESH & RWANDA | Increasing Medical Incident Reporting

In 2021 we worked with Save the Children Rwanda and Save the Children Bangladesh to investigate how to support increased reporting of medical incidents in clinical settings. We tested a range of prototypes and found that a simple paper based form used as a default tool during/ at the end of a working day was the most effective approach to improve reporting.

INDONESIA | Tackling Hazardous Child Labour

In 2022 we worked with Save the Children Indonesia to develop new ways to decrease children’s participation in hazardous labor in cocoa farming communities. Tested prototypes included a box of tools designed to keep children safe, a checklist highlighting the danger level of tasks, and theater created to communicate messages about child safety.
